SeaWorld Orlando - About Nalani

Photo rights to respected owners.

Born on September 18, Nalani is one of the youngest killer whales in captivity currently at the age of five. Her mother is Katina, a 32 year old orca that also resides at SeaWorld Orlando. Katina is not a captive-born orca and was captured from the wild. Her father is Taku, a killer whale that died at the age of fourteen at SeaWorld San Antonio but was born at SeaWorld Orlando. Taku also happens to be Nalani’s brother. That’s right; she’s an inbred, while she is a special whale she shows no side effects of being inbred. Nalani was Katina’s sixth calf and Taku’s second. Nalani was born at SeaWorld Orlando and that’s where she remains with mother Katina and other pod members including: Tilikum, Kayla, Trua, Makaio, and Malia.

Nalani’s name is Hawaiian for “Heaven is Calm.” Too bad this little girl is anything but calm. She is a very loving and curious youngster, but was very dependent on her mother in the first few years. She is learning fast, as she is used in shows regularly alongside Trua, Malia, Kayla, and Katina. An easy way to identify Nalani is how plump she is. She's chubby, like her mom and dad/brother, has round eye patches, has a straight dorsal fin, and is the longest baby at SWF.
